God’s Word, Our Story
Listen my people,
mark each word.
I begin with a story,
I speak of mysteries
welling up from ancient depths,
heard and known from our elders.
We must not hide
this story from our children
but tell the mighty works
and all the wonders of God.
Trinity Kids welcomes the whole family to an intergenerational biblical storytelling series we’re calling, “God’s Word, Our Story.” Starting on September 25th, each Sunday from 9:45-10:15 we will gather in the Library to spread the storytelling blanket, open the Bible, sing, and enter the story of God’s creative love and mending mercy. Then we’ll join our hands in a project (art, activity, or act of service) that responds to the story and involves participants in the life of the church. All ages are warmly welcomed!
This model of sharing the Word with children is inspired by the Godly Play and Catechesis of the Good Shepherd curriculums but is not a direct product of either one. After hearing a Bible story told by heart, children are invited to wonder aloud about what they heard and experienced. This model is rooted in our trust that:
● God is already active and present in the lives of children;
● When we gather around the Word, the living God promises to meet us and speak to us;
● Children are capable of hearing, wondering about, and being formed by Scripture;
● Children experience the God’s Word as a story to which they belong when their hearts and imaginations are engaged and when the story is told by caring community members.
Ordinary Time, Advent, and Christmas Seasons 2022
This fall, we begin with stories from the Old and New Testaments about the ancestors of Jesus and the prophets that prepared the way for him. Each week, following the story, we will place a card representing that ancestor on our “Story Tree.” During Advent and Christmas, we will heighten our anticipation and celebration by focusing on those who testified to and witnessed Jesus’ birth.
Adults and older youth, would you like to share your love of Scripture with our children? We are seeking volunteers to tell one Bible story by heart. This is a one-time commitment and a beautiful way to share your love of God’s Word with our children. Email Mary Emily Duba (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Tami Ernster (email@example.com) to learn more.
