The Family Ministry Team is planning a fun event for all members on Sunday, September 13. We invite members to go on an around the town scavenger hunt. This event will take place whether we are gathering in the building or not. Members have been asked to be scavenger hunt hosts. These hosts will hide something in their front yards. Participants will be given a list of homes to visit. At each location, the participants will be asked to find the hidden object. Once the object is found, the host will give the visitors a task. When the task is complete, a prize will be awarded. There will be 15 to 20 locations to visit. This event will give us the opportunity to see and visit our members while social distancing if necessary.
On Sunday, September 13, we will kick-off our Christian Education program. If we meet in person, we will hand out Bibles to our Three-year-olds, our Third Graders, and our Seventh Grade Confirmation Students. We will commission our Sunday School teachers and celebrate our upcoming year of learning. If we are not meeting in person, we will adjust our celebration; plans to be announced.
We will begin Sunday School classes on Sunday, September 20 whether in person or online. If we meet in person, we will begin in Fellowship Hall at 9:45 am. We will have some new elements in our program this year. We will start our lesson with opening table activities. We will hear the story in three ways, one per week: reading from the SPARK Story Bible, watching a video, and seeing a skit from our youth drama team. We will play a game together and then divide into small groups to engage in activity centers (there will be two choices each week). If we meet online, take-home packets will be available with materials needed for the lessons.
Our first unit, in September, will be the story of Hannah and her son Samuel. Samuel was the last judge for the Hebrew people. He was called by God as a prophet at a young age. God asked Samuel to find the first king of Israel, Saul, and Samuel also anointed king David. This story reminds us that God calls children and youth to be important leaders.
