Dear Siblings in Christ,
It has been far too long since I have seen many of you in person and I pray you all are doing well and staying safe. We continue to monitor the cases in Dubuque and in the state of Iowa and we continue to see an increase in cases both here in Dubuque and in the state. The council has decided to continue to remain closed for the next four weeks. The council will reevaluate the situation in the next two weeks to see if there has been any decrease in cases.
We continue to operate on the guideline that after 28days of a decrease in cases we will begin to slowly start in-person worship with specific safety guidelines in place. The council is working to create a Pandemic Reopening Directive which will outline the process on how to safely begin reopening the church building. At the same time, the Worship Committee is working on a document outlining what worship will look like when we do gather back for in-person worship and a list of volunteers required once we start worshiping in person. For example, in the early stages of beginning to reopen masks will be required, temperature checks will be given at the door, limited seating capacity, and we will not be able to sing or take Holy Communion until the cases continue to decline for another 28 days or a vaccine is available. When we begin worshiping in person, there will be no live streaming available until our sound and video system is updated. The current system we are using now to live stream will have to be removed. These are some of the precautions needed to protect everyone who comes to the church building to worship.
I am not happy about the situation we are in, and I would rather gather back together for in-person worship as soon as possible. Yet, I also know this is not the right thing to do until it is safe to do so. I am deeply grateful for the technology that allows us to worship online. As you can see by the picture below, its pretty complex and we have cords running everywhere, yet it allows us to gather online for singing, praying, hear the word, and seeing one another. I know that one day we will gather for in-person worship. I do not know when that will be yet, but I pray it will be soon.
We will continue to have the following procedures in place,
God’s peace and protection be upon you,
